All 16 Collectibles The Alan Wake Series
The Alan Wake series has a lot of collectibles to find. Some give you useful items or more information about the world, while others give you awards.
In the Alan Wake games, there are not a lake’s worth of things to find. Instead, there are oceans full of cool things to find. For each game in the series, there is a lot to find, and most of them have an award for a whole set.
The majority of them are useless trinkets that only do one thing: make you feel good when you reach a goal. However, some of them give you more information about Alan Wake’s world. What’s even better is that some of them come with cool stuff. What are the best things in the three-game collectathon, though? Here is a list of them all.
Can Pyramids
Alan Wake
Those things. No matter how cool it sounds to shoot a tower of empties, it’s not easy to find these. They are hard to spot because they don’t stand out visually or have a sound that goes with them. They can also appear in strange places.
So hard to get rid of that you only need to find and knock down about half of them to get the title.
Night Springs Video Games
Alan Wake – Special 2: The Writer
The video games for Night Springs are a nod to Alan Wake’s work. Aside from the funny idea (think Twilight Zone: The Game), these don’t have much going for them.
All ten copies are spread out across the DLC, so you’ll have to look in some odd places. They make a sound when they’re close, which is a nice nod to their Xbox 360 roots, but it’s so quiet that you might not be able to hear it over the other sounds in the Dark Place.
Alarm Clocks
Alan Wake – Special 1: The Signal
Like most of the trinkets in the first Alan Wake, the alarm clocks are just there to be found and gathered. They don’t add any story or unlock anything else, but they do give you an award. If we’re being vague, they might stand for Alan’s need to “wake up” from the mania that the Dark Place gave him.
Alarm clocks are hidden, so you’ll have to look for them a bit. But you’ll always know when you’re close to one because they’re always ticking.
Deer Heads
Alan Wake 2
From the fact that Saga has a lot of deer, it seems like she has a connection with them. This may be because she is Nordic and has a natural love for animals. Saga has to find 12 of these, which are spread out across the three “real world” parts of Cauldron Lake.
You have to talk to the deer head in Saga’s mind place to keep track of your progress with them. They’re not always easy to find, especially at night on maps. After getting all of these, you get a lot of tools, like flares, flashbangs, bullets, and more. There is also a short but interesting scene at the Elderwood Lodge. It’s strange that you don’t get a reward.
Cardboard Standees
Alan Wake – Special 1: The Signal
It’s not always easy to find the wooden standees, but they always stand out. The most interesting AW1 souvenirs are these, followed by the Manuscript Pages. Each one shows a different member of Alan Wake’s supporting cast, like the Alan Wake statue that Barry Wheeler moves around the game.
Each one has a blurb about a funny and theoretical book about the character it shows, making it seem like Barry wrote it himself.
Thermoses
Alan Wake
Yes, the Thermoses, like most of the items in the first game, are only there to be found and collected. They don’t add much to the game other than the fact that you have to search the map to get an award. Though, the Thermoses (Thermii?) are famous, not like most of those other things.
There was a time when the Thermoses were just a joke about Twin Peaks and great coffee. Now they’re famous on their own. They were instantly recognizable and have been changed into Altered things, like a spring of hot, soothing coffee that gives Saga and Alan a break and lets you save your game.
Radio Broadcasts
Alan Wake Series
Radio Broadcasts, which can be found throughout the whole series, add more information to Alan Wake’s world and fill in some of the blanks in the more normal world that lives on the edges of the story.
In the first game, finding them all is just a success. But for the series as a whole, they add more story, which is much more important. Whether you look at the story from the outside or meet up with important characters, you learn a lot.
Words Of Power
Alan Wake 2
Words of Power is one of two items you can find in the Dark Place. If you count Echoes, you can find three. They all fit into a certain group that makes Alan stronger in some way. You can spend these, like skill points, to make your gear stronger or give you new skills.
Most of the time, you can follow the yellow glow-in-the-dark paint to find these. But because of how the Dark Place dream works, you might have to look all over to find them. They don’t add much to the story, but at least they’ll keep Alan living. You only get an award for finding the first one.
Dark Place Television
Alan Wake 2
The TVs in the Dark Place give us a rare look into Alan’s mind during the 13 years that have passed since the last major game. It’s not going well for him. It’s hard to watch at times, but these glimpses help explain Alan’s actions and make the story more interesting in some fun ways.
To get the On the Trail of the Writer award, you need to find all of these. They’re pretty easy to miss. You’ll almost certainly get this award if you like to look around a bit before moving on.
Cult Stashes
Alan Wake 2
The members of the Cult of the Tree hide items in secret places around Cauldron Lake. These are called “cult stashes.” To find most of them, just play the game normally. But if you don’t go off the main road, you might miss a few. Around the middle of the game, you can find maps that show you where each one is.
Each of these boxes is locked, and you need to figure out a puzzle to get inside. These include everything from fun little hunts for nearby hints to frustrating high school math. Most of the time, the gifts are just common items, but sometimes they are very valuable, like bags that make your collection bigger or even a weapon. Since the achievement is tied to both sets of Lunchboxes, you’ll need to find all of them to earn the award.
Nursery Rhymes, Charms, And Dolls
Alan Wake 2
The FBC set up tests around Cauldron Lake and the nearby areas to see what would happen when people interacted with art, specifically poems, dolls, and pictures. On these sites, you have to put toys, which are usually nearby, on pictures in a way that goes with a poem that goes with them.
You’ll get Charms as a prize. These are small things that let you change how Saga works. They won’t usually change Flappy Bird, but they can give you an edge. Sometimes the puzzles are hard to understand, and figuring them out usually leads to a fight. To get both of the awards, you need to solve all twelve nursery rhymes. The first one is for answering five of them.
Night Springs Episodes
Alan Wake
You may have seen TVs playing an episode of Night Springs while you were running around in Bright Falls and the Cauldron Lake woods.
These were fun to watch while running in the woods and facing shadow monsters because they were a love mashup of shows like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. A lot of their charm comes from how silly they are, but some of them are also deep and make you think about themes that run through many of Remedy’s other games.
Alex Casey Lunchboxes
Alan Wake 2
In Saga’s part of the game, these mysterious boxes can be found. Each one holds a small piece of text that adds to the story and, more importantly, valuable Manuscript Scraps that can be used to supercharge Saga’s weapons. You get extra story for every level up you get in an area.
When you figure out who is giving out these collectibles, the extra texts, which include encouragement, thoughts, and… stories, really help to flesh out a character’s personality. Paint-splattered rocks and bright yarn decorations always show where the lunchboxes are, but they aren’t always easy to find.
Manuscript Pages
Whole Series
All through the series, you can find these typewritten (and hand-corrected in AW2) draft pages that are symbols of the whole thing. When you find these pages, they tend to give you prophetic and frightening glimpses into the near future. They give you more information about the characters and ideas in the story.
Earn an Achievement in both American Nightmare and American Wife if you get every page. For the first, you’ll need to play the game on the Nightmare level, which you can unlock, in order to get every page for the unlock. For the second type, the Manuscript Pages are also needed to unlock different guns in the game. In AW2, you only need to find one page to get the Achievement that goes with it.
Mayor Setter’s Campaign
Alan Wake 2
Not many of these are hidden, but the ones you do find are very easy to spot and worth your time. Get them by interacting with the Mayor Setter’s campaign spots. The mission board in Saga’s mind palace lets you keep track of your progress.
Get them all together for a chance to meet the Mayor, who doesn’t back down from tough questions and can’t wait to meet one of his voters. Give him a fair chance to get an award and a charm that makes it easy to find the other items.
Koskela Brothers Ads
Alan Wake 2
Do these ads give you any kind of power or stuff? Not unless you count getting an Achievement for finding them all. There must be something really funny about them in the Remedyverse. You can be sure of it. Each ad features the Koskela Brothers advertising their many services, and they are both over- and under-acted in the best ways.
Even though the FCC might not like all the swearing and breaking of the law they show, the ads are a nice break from what would otherwise be a very sad and dark story. There aren’t many of these ads, and even though they’re not hidden very well, it’s still easy to miss them. Do not miss any of these works of art. Listen for Jaakko’s pleasant baritone and keep an eye out for any TVs.
